The fact that you are reading this guide means that you need help with reinstalling Windows 7.

Anyway, why is a Windows 7 re-installation guide on the Cabal Technical Support section? Well, sometimes mysterious problems occur on PC's which causes gameguard to give errors that shutdowns Cabal or Cabal closing on it's own without reason etc. etc. So... when you are scratching your head for days and any solution you have tried on this forum are not helping your problem at all, you can try reinstalling your Windows.

With a fresh Windows installation you can "avoid" installing programs that might be the cause of your problem with Cabal. This all might take 2 hours or something, so instead of waiting weeks for a solution you can use 2 hours and try this out as well. As this usually will fix software problems. If a fresh install doesn't work, it could mean a hardware problem.

To reinstall Windows with a back-up plan for the sake of saving time you'd require a few things at least:

1) You need to have a Windows 7 DVD full version installation disc or repair disc (which you might get instead of a full version installation disc with all-in-one brand PC's. A brand PC usually have a hidden partition on the HDD which contains a recovery image of your OS. It's basically a clean OS of when you just bought your PC).

2) At least a 2nd partition besides your C:/ partition with Windows on it. Aka a D, E partition etc. that has space for backing-up your Windows partition on it.

3) I personally never save my stuff on C:/ apart from pictures and documents, but if you have your Cabal client .exe file and other files on it, move it to another partition.

What to do:

You can ignore the first step, if you don't care about restoring your "old" Windows. You can jump to step 2 then. This is just a safety measure in case a fresh installation doesn't fix this problem, you can then save time reinstalling programs as you can just press a button to restore your old Windows.

Step 1. Back-up:

How to create a system image of your current Windows 7 for back-up. (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/4241/how-to-create-a-system-image-in-windows-7/) Remember! Save the image on your D or E etc.! If you lack space on it or if you want to reduce the back-up time, you can uninstall some huge programs/games your rarely use for it.

Step 2. Reinstall Windows:

Now that you have back-upped your current Windows you can now reinstall it. Windows 7 is very handy these days as it comes with a build in feature that reinstalls Windows 7 for you with just one click. You just need to have the install DVD in your dvd-drive.
If you own a full version DVD of Windows 7 you can just insert it in your dvd-drive, go to Start, click Control Panel --> Recovery --> Advanced Recovery Methods and you will see this screen:

Well the screen speaks for it's self and you can just click on 2nd options for "Reinstall Windows" and just follow the instructions after it. Your old Windows will be saved in the Windows.old folder on C:/ after it finished installing. So you can still move files from it, if you need it. An option will appear at Disc Cleanup to delete the Windows.old folder. You may do that if you think you don't need it anymore (you still have a restore image anyway).

For those who only got a repair disc that came with your brand PC ---> Read the manual of it.

Step 3. Install programs:

Go update your Windows with Windows update and only install the minimum required programs that are needed to run Cabal. Install Cabal and check if you still got the problem you have. If the error/problem doesn't occur anymore --> congratulations! You can now proceed installing the rest of the programs you normally use. One by one and see whether one of them was the main cause of your problem... you may not find any problem at all as well though. But if the problem/error is still occurring... you would have to choice to restore your old Windows.

Step 4. Restore Windows image:

If you have ended up here at step 4, it would mean that even a fresh Windows installation is not fixing the problem for Cabal... you can simply go to Start then, click Control Panel --> Recovery --> Advanced Recovery Methods and you will see this screen again:

Choose the 1st option and look for your saved system image file and follow the instructions to restore it.
