View Full Version : Skilling using cannons.

It kind of caught me by surprise as I made some testings.
Up to this point I used burning hands, freeze, magic arrow as a combo to skill.
But I took some testing and it takes:
11 hits of burning hands/freeze
7 hits of any arrow - lance
5 hits of a cannon/edc
to gain one pixel of my magic skillbar.
thats at completer -> transcender on free to play with +48 skillexp.

48 Skill exp? why is that? I think 38 is the max.
And you are wrong. You get skill exp by using skills, so i bet that you use 6 arrows till you use like 4-5 cannons, which means with arrows you get skill exp better.
I tell this from my personal experience...
I think that you're wrong there - i'm a force archer not a wizard but when i use higher level skills like gravity distortion and magic drill my skill bar moves up when i use the skill once... but it takes 3 or 4 cannons to make it move up a bit.

well, just go and count the number of arrows or cannons you need for 1 pixel on the skillbar.
Its' faster for me. and I knew someone would stumble over the 48 skillexp. 36 (38) is not max. I even got a large boost from 42 to 48. but thats on f2p!
And im not talking about any special skills on a different class, Im talking about a wizz and the hits I need to gain one pixel. arrows up to lances 7, cannons only 5.
0.2 secs longer casting time does not equal 2 more uses of a 1.8 sec skill.
and on bh/freeze even 11. for some reason I think bh - freeze - magic arrow is a bad combo for skilling.
but anyway just log in and count the hits you need for one pixel on the skillbar and come back and share your experience.
is it proven that cannons are faster in skillin than BH - Freeze - Magic Arrow, cause everytime i ask ppl whats important in skillin they say "DO AS MANY SKILLS AS POSSIBLE" so i still wonder...
the more the rank of skill, the more skill exp it gives..BUT using quick novice skills is better.
well, imho, novice skills are fast, do low dmg, so i can skill on a mob for longer than with canons etc. i also didn't use burning hands, cause it takes time to come to mob, so arrows and freeze was the answer for me.

yeah, also did that testing for a whole skill, turns out using stone cannon > fire cannon > fire lance > stone lance is way faster than just using BH > freeze.
BUT.. using magic arrow > fire arrow > terra arrow > xxx arrow is just as fast as the cannon combo.. so i deleted BH and Freeze and i'll just go arrows only :)
(testing was done without the use of combo skill as you can't combo BH and freeze only)

You could try
BH > freeze > random arrow to combo.
It worked good enough to get trans in magic for me.
And high lvl skills kill much faster, which makes you switch more often.
Switching costs time and increases combo difficulty by a small portion.

It depends where you skill really. I used 2 lances and freeze to skill spam. Lihorn zombies took 6 hits with that combo.
I don't like BH because of it's range.

Depends on a lot of factors.
F.e. right now Im doin my last skillups to Transcender on the Warchannel 1 hitting mobs for Honour pts & Skillexp.
From my later experience: If you don't combo cannons is the way to go. Comboing arrows and maybe even bh/freeze might be faster.
From my later experience: If you don't combo cannons is the way to go.
Might be because canons can hit multiple mobs while novice skills are single attack only.
I noticed i seemed to get skill exp faster using hydro disk while surrounded by mobs than when i was attacking mobs 1 on 1.

I have that same idea... It seems that hitting lot of mobs with the same skill gives more skill exp than just hitting one.
But this idea can be wrong, I mean, when I am skilling I feel bored, so that may be the reason why it seems to take longer...

If you combo, no its not.
combo = novice skills
no combo = cannons
for skilling!
caught myself being wrong on that topic! somehow comboing compensates those more skills you are needing.
but I learned some things:
- if Im using 1 skill over and over, like when afk skilling on dummys or sword on a +mob, its faster to use 'flash draw' than 'impact stab'.
- and I prefer 3 novice arrows over bh, freeze, magic arrow as I don't have to run around so much.
- And on the warchannel killing low mobs. I just don't combo and use cannons for the 'faster' gain of honour points. 1 kill 1 honour point. so its 1 honour point every 2 seconds.
