Quick question: What determines the amount of skill exp gained when using a sword skill? Is it the damage?

Thank you in advance

Its the amount you use your skills ... you get exp for the skill use not the damage :) so best thing to do is get a low level adept gear and go find a hard mob and pot like hell that way u take ages to kill it meaning more skill usage (and remember to get high multi kill combos and correct me if im wrong use auras as they increase skill percentage per skill use)

Thank you for the help. I have a set of adept+2 gear, and using a low level weapon do deal less damage (less damage, more skill spamming before mob is dead).

Two last questions:
1) Im a lvl 50 warrior, currently at 17/28, Regular sword rank. Am I under leveled?

2) My magic skill seems to lvl up pretty easily so far. If I purchase the Magic to Sword upgrade, will the sword skill gain the exact amount of exp?

Thanks again

1) Yes that is pretty low. Around 3or5/45 Expert would be better. I am 33/45 at lvl 51 but I skill grind like crazy.

2) You don't need the Magic > Sword upgrade. Work your sword skill up to at least gmaster first and then buy Sword > Magic to begin leveling up Magic to Transcender. :) After that you go level up your Sword to Transcender.
However, to answer your question: I think so. But it won't look like it. What I'm trying to say is; Sword lvl goes slower than Magic, therefore it looks like you get Magic faster, but I believe that isn't true. Also, at lower lvls you lvl up your skill faster. Starting from Expert, that will be getting slower each rank. :)

Minor hijack of the topic, but i have similair problem.

I'm currently 51, having 13/28 of regular, even worse then the TS. Magic is even worse, 14/24 of aprecinte (or how you spell this). Now i just got acces to the new Port map, where i saw quite some orange mobs.

From the moment i reached 20, i never used chain combo's anymore, neither any magic attacks (50 dmg vs 250 dmg sword hehe). As i now read, combo and BM's increase skill exp too? I have a full adept set (+3), sword and necklace. I however already got some 'stronger' gear, more def and def.rate and +atk so i use that most of the time.

So for me the best is to lock myself in Port with orange mobs and combo all day on orange mobs with my adept set? As i cant even get the sword->magic or magic->sword yet, i cant do that tip Kromidoulas gives.

This warrior is my first character, as i made all other jobs now too i know to get my skills up way faster. But i just dont want to leave my warrior rotting because i did a very lousy job keeping my skill-grade up :(

And last question, does melee attacking (auto attack) give skill exp too?

No only the fact that you use a skill.
Actually I guess there's a ridiculus amount of sword skill exp for regular weapon use, but not so sure.

SinergyX, go to the BI/GD/DS at a spot with huge amount of monsters, especially grey or that grey-yellow and farm skill... I have 58 lvl at my wizard and... I have master 5x/83. I avoided all mess with doing quest and focused on skill. I will make that all stuff later, after I will gain G.Master and that will happen on 59, maybe 60 lvl.

With Port Lux monsters you will get quite lot dmg, so you have to use hp potions... With weaker monsters, there is no such problem. My favourite place so far is spot with hounds zombie and planthorn zombie near enter to skeleton mine area.

well i will go with the higher monsters... hard to kill but that's me because i am FS... weaker classes with less def... i think have to kill yellow ones... nor orange or red.

Omg, you must tell me your secret! >.<;
I'm lvl 58 and I have 10/45 Expert :(

I'm wearing an adept set and I grind pretty much too. Never powerlevel.
But my skill rank is still so under leveled :pcguru:

Is it better to level skill with an ADEPT weapon (ie shadowsteel) or to use a basic weapon that doesn't do much damage, so the mobs don't die as fast?

I started yesterday to grind skillexp, in Green i went just outside town on those flying things. Full Shadowsteel adept (+3) and a shadowsteel sword +6exp. 25% 1 hour card added, from 13 to 18/28 :) I took impact (first skill of novice) and flash draw, both on 9 you can spam nonstop with lowish damage (100-120 dmg). I noticed even using a very low blade the damage isnt much lower (90-110ish) so i would say, pick the adept weapon.

Taking 3 magic skills from novice on 9 do 40-80 damage so takes 11 (yeey combo) to take em down.

hmm...i kinda prefer the following method:
lvl up till you can wear adept stuff. dont rush or powerlevel. simply do your thing and combo all the time (i started out with the first 3 sword skills+magic arrow crap).
When you got your adept stuff going, search for a spot where you can find single (preferable non aggressive ones - though i don't remember which, since the last time i played was cb I.), yellow mobs, that don't hit too hard. now put your weapon off and just punch the crap out of this poor toy.
Do this in windowed mode and have some nice coffee in the mean-time ;)

I have lvled my sword from 15/45 to 39/45 by 2-3 hours or sth with using full adept and magic to sword upgrade, is it fast enough or can be better? im 56lvl now.

If you're a warrior, you don't need Magic -> Sword upgrade actually. You shouldn't use magic skills at all, 'cause they suck at Warrior. 24 Sword levels in 2/3 hours is pretty good. Now go level up to A.Expert before you get to 60. Make sure you get to G.Master before lvl 80, then it'll all be fine. :)
I'm currently 14/67 A.Expert at lvl 54. I'm getting a bit bored though so I might do some leveling too. :)

Does +4 also exsist? I only saw +3exp so i thought it was the highest, same for the blade. I'll try to get on trade channel again tonight :(

Well you're pretty wrong about the magic, since ranking gives HP and other boosts. If you're smart you should level both from the start when you get Adept.

Could anyone explain this ?
How can you gain skill exp by punching :smilies_49:? I thought you only gain skill exp by using skills. :hmmmm2:

You thought correct,In this shape , the sword skills only develops,,

KipiK
08-07-2007, 09:37
No, you get a small amount of both sword and magic skill exp by hitting with bear hands.
The only weakness to this is that you gein less exp than skilling but at least you can enjoy a coffee cup while you're hitting the monster for a couple minutes.

right...but i discovered its easier/faster if u just spam low lvl skills...it goes way faster! so screw what i said before ;p

Yeah, even with dummies that you gain 0 exp you gain skill exp.

Tsukaza
10-07-2007, 13:25
So, dummies are the best way to skill up??

SinergyX
10-07-2007, 13:51
Only for the 30% of your total skill.. yes then dummies are.
(so asume magic you need 25 lvls, you can do upto 8/25 on dummies).

A.Master at 53 :> does somebody know how much points need for Transncender?

I would say as many as X * 100
where X is the number of skill casts to get the skill xp bar moving (I believe that 1 slice is 1%)...

Tsukaza

Now the problem isn't grinding....

The prob is the Adept u wear ^^
