What antivirus would you recommend to use? Since after every Cabal update, I have to uninstall and reinstall Avast :/

It kind of depends on what kind of cpu-user you are. Are you downloading a lot of *odd* stuff from the internet yes or no, are you visitting a lot of *odd* sites. Is your cpu used by more people etc..
I don't have a virusscanner running on my cpu. The only thing I do is a once a month scan with housecall (free online scan) or whenever I got the feeling something isn't right.
In general there are several good brands like: AVG (quite common), Avira, Kaspersky, Norton.
But take a look at http://av-comparatives.org/en/comparativesreviews/summary-reports .

Well, I recently installed Ad-Aware Free Internet Security (http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php) for my niece's infected PC as she didn't had an antivirus program installed -_-. And it did a pretty good job. It's quite good for free program according to this article: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2388652,00.asp#fbid=NeySqpt7yPE.
I always use one antivirus/firewall program and Malwarebytes for some regular checks to keep my PC safe.

You can't really go wrong with the choice of virusscans written in the article, every scanner has its pro's and con's and offers the basic protection.
If you want me to choose, go for http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/security-essentials assuming you use a legimate Windows ;). Plain and simple (same counts for the other scans) and in my experience this app doesn't eat away system performance.
Besides the virusscan make use of CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner), keeps your cpu nice and clean.

I use Avast too anh have no problems with it.
Maybe you have misconfigured Avast ;)
