View Full Version : Just a few queries
Hi,
I'm new to Cabal and the Wizard class, i just thought i;d stop by and say hi on the class forum as well as ask a couple of questions.
Firstly, i understand that i am somehow supposed to increase sword rank, presumably this is so i can increase fade step some and possibly later for other reasons, could someone explain how i am supposed to do this and why (if there is another reason other than fade step)
Secondly, I am using Hongs guide on the database as a template for how i intend to build my Wizard, just want to make sure i am not doing anything horribly wrong, as he mentions getting skills like Burning hand and Freeze to level 9, but then doesn't mention any other skills in Novice rank and i now have spare points 19/22 Novice both skills are currently at 9, wondering what else i should be looking at or do skill ranks carry over to the next level??
Sorry for the fairly detailed questions i'm not new to MMO's by a long shot but Cabal does have some odd little technicalities i haven't really come across before (9Dragons rings a bell for skill rankups but thats about it) So any input or further direction to guides/explanations of mechanics is much appreciated.

First of all, hi and welcome! Prepare to play as a highly offensive class =p especially in pvp; a very good damage dealer in pve also.
Now, to answer your questions:
1).The real reason for lvling sword rank is that you gain benefits from it; such as extra stat points added in str and dex each rank up, and an amount of hp bonus, that gets higher each rank up.
Another reason would be that you can get dash and fadestep (which you need both on lvl 9 btw=p).
Now, to lvl sword there's 2 ways: 1 - you get yourself a sword (blade or katana, that you can equip) and buy the lowest sword skill (flash draw and/or impact stab) then, you go around hitting mobs with sword skills.
2 - when you reach expert (if I'm not mistaken) rank in magic, at the instructor in Port Lux, you can find an upgrade skill (yes, it will ocuppy an upgrade skill slot) called "change force". There are 2 typed: "magic to sword" and "sword to magic". Change force transfers the skill exp you gain in one skill tree, to the other, when you use the skills. Obviously you're looking for "magic to sword"; this will make it so that when you use a magic skill, you gain exp in sword. The magic skill rank/skill exp that you gained so far, will remain untouched.
Ofcourse, it is preffered that first you get to transcender in magic, and then worry about sword.
2).That guide is right, in addition to burning hand and freeze, you might want to try one of the arrows skills, at lvl 9 again, and that would make a very nice skill-lvling combo.
Hmm I don't know of any guides, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask here; or you can look through the topics of this section, many things have already been discussed :P
thanks for the response, i certainly hope the wizard is worth it, kills pretty well so far, doesn't matter if i get hit some. I will look into using Magic>Sword although it does say you aren't supposed to use it because it ignores bonus from adept armour (another good point where the heck do i find adept armour?)
I saw a blader with seriously cool flashy bladey swishy shiney fast attacks but i don't want to be put off, wizard does get some insanely cool attack graphics right?
One part of hongs guide that is a little confusing is what he mentions about the default magic attacks (the ones all classes get i.e the arrows) he says to get about 3 different types of those (fire earth and aqua or something) but i don't know when to get them, i assume i only get a set amount of rank points per rank so i can easily calculate which skills i would be able to hit 9 with? Is there any point saving points or should i spend all novice points on novice skills so long as i do the ones recommended first?

ofc wiz get "flashy" spells . Most of them after expert are very flashy; but you don't have spinning around and jumping like fb,blader w/e. Even though they spin , smash , jump w/e they don't do too much dmg , and even if they do they have high cooldown and cast time ( compared to wiz's GM ).
How does one hold a sword too? the stats shown are usually for Blader/FB only. Can i still meet stat reqs then? and should i stick to my growth stats or try to hit stats for the newbiest sword?
Also i just hit apprentice not long ago and can attack the training dummies now. I don't seem to get any XP though, how do they work? or is it just very very very slow?

For the first question..
Yes eventually you will gain enough stats to wear a newbie sword. It doesn't matter what sword you use or what sword skill, to level up your sword rank. You get more sword exp by using more often any sword spell (most people chose the ones with slow cooldown) .
For the second question...
You need Premium account to be able to train at dummies. If you have premium you can only train 30% of your rank. Ex. u are 0/100 , you can only train until 30/100. After that the grinding begins.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm tight fisted so i doubt i'd go premium until i have played a while and feel it would benefit me. So i should continue levelling my character as growth dictates until i can equip a sword? and then i should grind my sword skills as high as i can? Also is there any point in saving rank skill points or should i spend them all from each rank? i could get another skill to about 7 atm i think, and i could go for either an arrow or the hp regen buff??
EDIT: i have newbie arrow at 1 and 4 slots to fill, should i delete the newbie arrow in favour of an elemental one?

For low levels yes , i'd say level and respect the growth until you'll be able to wear a newbie sword. After that getting your sword rank to apprentice is enough , so you'll get dash. Later on , you'll level your magic rank , and at a.master you'll get Blink , same thing like dash .
Well , dunno what to say for your second question , I don't know your level or magic rank , but you shouldn't fill all your magic slots , get enough spells to kill monsters for your level , cause you'll be wasting money to learn useless spells , and ,again, you'll be wasting money to remove those spells. For novice rank , getting burning hands , and freeze , and mb an arrow with higher dmg will be enough , any monster you'll attack won't be able to get close to you (optional you can learn Regeneration - i never did but most of the low level mages learn it ). Once you get to apprentice remove burning hands and learn digbomb , it's like the same thing but with range and with a limit of 2 (= it means if u get monsters around the monster you cast digbomb they'll be damaged too) . And here replace your novice arrows with 2-3 blasts , chose the ones with higher +attack .
so if i remove burning hands i can use those points to level up the other more useful skills? This is way too complex for an asian game :D they are usually linear and simple from my previous experiences. Should i remove burning hands right away? because Digbomb i cannot level up past 1 yet and burning hands is a lot faster.

yes , if for example you put 7 points in burning hands you can get your points back , but you have to pay a fee , pree K and select magic , and you'll see burning hands , press the "-"(minus) and you'll see how much you have to pay. At low levels it's easy to remove and learn spells , at higher levels you'll have to pay even 2-3 mil to remove 1 level from a spell. And yes , remove burning hands and learn digbomb . To level up your digbomb you'll have to meet the Rank level requirement . Burning hands is not good because it gets you too close to the mob.
