Possible solution to connection issues.

For the people amongst you who suffer from lag and disconnection and have a router and/or a firewall this guide might just help you forward. Its no certain solution but it’s one of many solutions.

Conditions:

You have a router
You have a firewall
You have both router and firewall

This guide will assume you have both router hardware (little box that shares your cable/DSL with the network) and some type of firewall software (Windows XP Firewall for example) since those are the conditions.

What we are basically going to do is open up the ports used for Cabal Online so that your router forwards them straight to the pc you are playing from.

Using your router, forward TCP ports 38111-38125 & UDP ports 6800-6899 to your computer's LAN IP.

Make port exceptions in your firewall for TCP ports 38111-38125 & UDP ports 6800-6899.

Normally it should also work when only opening up the TCP ports however while you are at it and to be completely safe it’s best to also open up the UDP ports.

Extended Guide

Since every router has a different configuration menu it’s impossible to make a step-by-step guide for every different brand and model. So this is a general guide wich should help you get trough your routers configuration bit.

The first thing to do is enter your routers configuration page, this is generally done by browsing to http://192.168.1.1 in your browser. If this doesn’t work please refer to your routers manual on how the get to the configuration page.

Once in the configuration page you will want to be looking out for the port forwarding section which can be found in the advance section of the configuration page. By forwarding these ports we are simply telling your router that the data coming through these ports is legit data and that it is okay to send it onwards to your PC.

Once you find the port forwarding section you will see something along the lines of “Add Entry” or “Add TCP/UDP Entry”. Once you found this you can select it and it will ask you for some details, “External Port”, “Local IP” and “Internal Port”.

In both the external and internal port field choose 38111-38125 and in the local ip you enter the TCP/IP address from the pc you play the game on.

To find this, go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Network Connections and right click on the Lan or High-Speed internet connection: Select "Status" and click the support tab. There's your IP!

Note: If your address type reads "Automatic DHCP" or something, you need to manually configure it. If your IP is manually configured (meaning it's always the same every time you boot up) then good.

To learn how to manually configure your IP address, please follow this link: http://www.tmmworld.com/Default.aspx?tabid=161

For the protocol type, select TCP. Choose OK or save to confirm the change.

Now try and create the same entry only with the UDP protocol choice and the above mentioned UDP ports. If you can't or don't want to, don't worry.

Save and confirm all changes.

Firewall Setup

If you're using Microsoft windows XP firewall like too many people are, access it through Start menu -> Control Panel -> Windows firewall.

In the Exceptions tab, choose Add port. Call it "Cabal Online TCP", Port number 38111-38125, click TCP and then OK.
Choose Add port again, call the second one "Cabal Online UDP", port number 6800-6899, click UDP and then OK.
Click OK to finalize all of your settings. Go back into Windows Firewall settings to confirm that your 2 ports are opened. In reality you only need 1 (the TCP one) but the second is just there for posterity's sake.

If you don't have Windows firewall but have another firewall program, you can still use this procedure within your software. Be sure to check your manual or help files about port exceptions.

All you now still have to do is to restart your router and you should be good to go!
