There is no "best skill". It's not like there are secret powerful skills that people keep secret. In fact if you are a wizard using just 1 skill you may have missed the point of the combo system
It is simply a matter of trying various skills and seeing what works for you. Most people like Lances as they have a fast cast/cool and do a lot of damage making them very good for skilling an combos. A few just go for flashy skills to look cool rather than tune for speed/damage.
Personally with my level 47 wiz (still new) i'm using lances almost completely but i'm still hanging onto dig bomb and aqua disc for those moments i get mobbed and need area effect damage to floor the mobs so i can move back.
