[Account Management] - How to look after your CABAL Online Account
In this section we will go over certain aspects of your account security. In general 99.99% of all lost accounts are not due to a hacking of the game database but due to negligence of the user him(her)self. By taking careful note of the suggestions made in this thread and by keeping your computer secure, you should never suffer the experience of being "hacked".
Some key rules to follow
- Know your details! - by knowing your account details, you will always be able to retrieve your account
- Trust no one!
- There are no "friends" on the internet - anyone who requests your information and gets offended when you knock them back is certainly not a real "friend"
- Be paranoid - it is better to be over cautious than to be under cautious
- Stay away from account-sharing - it will only lead to trouble
- Do not visit illegal sites such as those of bots, cheats or hacking programs - not only are they bannable but most will infect your computer with a trojan

Basic guide to registering for the game
Registration
While many of you have already registered, I believe it is still worthwhile going over steps you can take during registration to reduce the risk of being "hacked". As a rule of thumb, prevent re-using the same password and account name more than once during registration. In what is simple logic, the more variation you have in your private information, the more secure your account will be from those who attempt to guess your CABAL login details.
For example, one huge mistake many users make is naming their account name, character and forum name all the same. What this does is instantly give the "hacker" some information on your account. Below are some tips which should be followed, in order to create a secure account:
- Try to use a variation of names when creating your account. For example, name your character [GM]Caesar, your forum account Caesar and your account name bilbobagins5439a . While your forum name and ingame name can be similar, attempt to keep your ID unrelated.
- When creating your account ID it is important to note that this should not be guessable. While another user having your account ID is not necessarily in its own right a security risk to your account, it is already giving the "hacker" an advantage. When creating an ACCOUNT ID, use a variety of numbers and letters; this prevents the guess-worker from ever finding out your ID. Remember you can always write this word down and therefore it does not need to be instantly memorable.
- Following on from the above advice, the obvious point to make is to not give your account ID to anyone else. Under no circumstances is account sharing allowed and therefore why risk the security of your account?
Ensure that you register with the correct information
It is vital that during registration you provide correct and accurate information. Details such as name and date of birth are often filled in incorrectly and the result of this is that many users are unable to prove ownership of their account. By using false information you run the risk of losing your account and therefore please use your real details.
Many users claim that they use wrong details either because:
(a) They plan on just "testing" the game
(b) They are fearful of providing such details over the internet
What I would say to these people is that there is no benefit to using wrong information. Games-Masters.com are covered by Data protection laws and your information has to be legally secure. By using your real information you are linking yourself to the account and will never face problems in retrieving it back. Whether you are a player who plans to play the game permanently or simply want to test it, leave your options open and use the correct details!
Write down your information
Following on from the previous point, I would suggest that you write down all of your information after registration. Details such as your unique questions and answers are likely to be forgotten and therefore to avoid the hassle of having to go through the support system, simply grab a pen and paper and write them down! It only takes a few minutes and could save you a lot of hassle in the future.
Creating your password
Never give out your password! That is the single most important rule to remember, to keep your account safe from "hacking". From the moment you hand out your password(s) you lose control. The person you share your password with comes under the same risks as you do and therefore even if you trust them 100%, there is a risk that they can be compromised and therefore an additional risk to YOUR account. Its a simple rule and will prevent you from ending up naked in Desert Scream.
However, the above rule does not even matter if you create a poor password. A password, just like an account id, which is guessable is likely to lead you into trouble. Try to vary the passwords you use and as I have stated before, while you may not remember it in the short run - it quickly becomes lodged into your memory. DO NOT pick a password just because it is memorable. Details such as your name, interests and other basic facts, can be easily found out and you can therefore be "hacked" by some simple guess work. Always try to make your password random. Of course use data you will remember, however mix the order up and add a sequence of numbers and letters.
For example say a favourite word of mine was tigers. By using the word "tigers" as my password, I would be putting my account at risk to anyone I talked to about my interests of animals. However if I mix this up and put my birthdate into this sequence, I instantly make my account more secure; e.g. 14tig02er82
Some basic rules to always remember in regards to your password:
- Never ever tell ANYONE your password
- I repeat - never tell anyone your password. If you do, your account security will instantly fall and your likelihood of being "hacked" will dramatically increase. You have been warned!
- Choose a "good" password - a "good" password is a password which is not easy to guess. Please re-read the above section if you do not understand this!
- As a general rule - make your passwords complicated. Do not use only numbers and do not use only letters - by mixing them up you create a much stronger password.
- To check the strength of your password, you can use the below site:
https://passwortcheck.datenschutz.ch/check.php?lang=de
(Make sure you are on the https-site) - Unsure whether or not your account is safe? Why not try a password generator. These can be found by searching google.
- Again to emphasise the point - do NOT re-use your password from another site. While it may seem easier to remember, it is decreasing the security of your account and therefore increasing your chances of being hacked.

"Help - I have been hacked"
So you have not followed our advice and ended up loosing your equipment, alz and honor. What can you do now?
Identify the cause
Many players make the mistake of skipping this vital step. They believe wrongly that the hacker has come and gone and is never to return; this is a huge oversight! Whether it be a hacking from sharing your account information or from downloading a keylogger - you need to know where the source of the hacking comes from, to ensure that you have removed the threat.
Securing your computer
One of the key causes of players being "hacked" is a security flaw/leak on their computer. This can come in the form of a keylogger or a trojan and needs to be removed straight away. This guide is not going to cover how to remove a trojan from your computer and you can find such advice by searching google. However it is important that before you go onto the next step, you are sure that your account is safe and secure from these risks. I would suggest that you invest time in finding a good antivirus program if you have not already done so.
Securing your account
Once again I will re-iterate my previous point; you need to check the source of the "hacking" and if it is a trojan ensure that it is gone before you follow these steps.
If you are sure that your computer is secure, the next step is to secure your account. The major problem which follows a "hacking", is that many of your details can be changed. Details such as your email and address are easily and often instantly changed by the "hacker". This prevents you from retrieving your website password and leaves you locked out of your account.
The solution:
- As soon as you realise you have been hacked (and have cleared your computer from trojan or malware) contact the CABAL Online Support department at support.cabalonline.com .
- When creating a ticket, ensure that you provide the following; your website ID, your real name, your date of birth and amount of game accounts on your account. Your name and date of birth are two fields which the hacker cannot change and it therefore proves to us that you are the owner of the account
- Once we receive this information we will lock your account. Your account is then safe and secure from the hacker, allowing us to work together to re-secure your account.
- We will then request from you, your secret question and answer. This will allow us with the above details to change your email address. If you have forgotten your secret question and answer, we may ask some further details to prove that you are the real owner.
- Follow the guide above on how to reset your website password.
- Follow the guide above on how to reset your game password
- Change your account details back and also request a change to your secret question and answer. This can be done by following the guide found here.
Please note that we WILL NOT restore any of your lost items, alz or honor. This type of hacking is YOUR responsibility and we will not be accountable for your mistakes. You have been warned and it is your responsibility to ensure that YOUR own account is safe.
